Default Sand. Black Star 'Pacific Red Tag'

This past weekend was the National Capital Orchid Show at the National Arboretum outside of Washington DC. I entered this one in my societies exhibit and was pleased when I found out it won a first place. Many have questioned the Sand. on the lable but that is what is on the tag and how I entered it. The judges did not question it. The spike is 36" tall. I enterd 7 orchids won a first place on this one and a second place on another.

Wow, congrats! I looked it up...seems that Sand. (Sanderara) is also called Brsdm (Brassidium)...which might be familiar to more people. 36" is quite a spike!!!

Congratulations on great job and a beautiful, orchid. I'm not quite feeling the blue stake, but maybe that helped the judges to give you the first prize. Very nice.

From my research i did last year on it (i was really curious...) Sanderara is a certain variety of the Brassidium 'geuns' and apparently is quite rare, and any hybrid within the Brassidium 'genus' can be of the variety. Im not entirely sure on that though.
    Beautiful though, Really beautiful.

Sanderara = Brassia x Cochlioda x Odontoglossum; no Oncidium in it.

We;; i never look at one site, i looked at 5 in this instance, and two said that, and the other three reckon it was a varient of Brassidium....i went with the majority on that one. Wrong choice hehe!
