Strange but beautiful species. It is named after Andre Schuiteman who works at the Hortus Botanicus Leiden, The Netherlands. This University works in a orchid review of the orchids of Papua New Guinee. They have an agreement to collect in PNG and ship the orchids to the Leiden. A lot of new species are named there. So when ever you see schuitemanii or vogelii (Ed de Vogel) or vermeulenii (Jaap Vermeulen) the chance is big its from PNG.

Interesting...that looks alot like my Cadetia Taylorii. I love these little guys...wish mine would get a seed pod like that. That is cool looking!

Haha!! Funny I never knew there was a Cadetia named after Andre.

BTW Andre now works at the Kew herbarium. But a few months ago I visited him together with Ed and Eline (who is a botanical illustrator) and brought a big box of orchids from Leiden to Kew.
Hopefully he feels a bit back in Leiden now.

@ Orchidmorris. Actually plants named vogelii are named after Art Vogel. Plants named adter Ed would be devogelii or devogeliana. I know that there even is a genus named after Ed (Devogelia) and the one species is called Devogelia intonsa wich mean the unshaved. This refers to the orchid as wel as to Ed.
The very rarely name species after each other though especially if you realise how many species they have described. Even right now there are a whole bunch of orchids in the greenhouse waiting to be named. One very cool Bulbophyllum with purple bristles on its lip and also very nice Dendrobium that I asked to be named after Jane Goodall

In any case. Very nice plant Tom. And the fruit is indeed the weirdest.
