My Dendrobium Nobile ( need some help ) from you guys :)

I believe this is Nobile Spring Dream Apollon...not seen its blooms yet as i rescued this one last year...it had two bulbs but with viruses all over them and the leaves black patches with yellow around them....I managed to get two new growths which im proud of i cut the ones with viruses off so it does not spread...i hope i did the right thing ?My Question is this....have i repotted it in the right size pop? and the other bulbs that was cut before i brought it,do i leave them and not remove ?

They look fine to me, but I would have them in smaller pots. Dends. like there roots to be crowded i.e. smaller pot.

Matt, I'm not an expert, but from experience and what others have told me, they like being cramped. They have fine roots, depth of pot is not significant, but to balance the pot and stop tipping, I would have some stones, broken crockery in bottom to counterbalance the orchid. You could if you didn't like the stones, etc. in base of pot, place this pot into a free standing terracotta pot with some holes in it.(Make sure water can run out of this pot, freely). Anybody else have any further ideas?

Hi Clive,

Dendrobiums like to be potted tightly in a fee draining mix. Potting them in deep pots or over-potting them will not let the medium dry out quickly and will lead to root rot. Keep an eye on them and make sure they are completely dry before watering again - or repot so that they are not in such large pots. You can use lava rock in the bottom of a deeper pot to keep the taller plants from falling over, or pot your orchid in a clay pot that is heavier. Good luck!

Hello Bruce...Thank you for your guidence...i will do this either tomorrow then and re pot it into a small pot...just wondering as winter will be here soon...is it wise to do so? or should i wate till after winter ? i always stand mine on a bed of stones so yah it would fall over so i will have to put some smaller stones in the pot then keep it ballanced....Thanks again for your kind help

Hi Bruce...ive re potted it now..hmm seems the the roots of the den was filling the pot and massive of roots to all the way to the bottom...any way ive put it in a smaller one and thanks for the valuable advice
