    Default V. Pornpimol x V. Sunchart

Here's my new guy that Joe gave me.

    And here's the whole plant.

Now comes the question - I don't curently have any orchids that are growing in baskets without medium.... ummmmm.... is this normal? or should I stuff something in there for him? Can other's be grown this way if so which ones? It also seems that he is a basket within a basket there is a smaller plastic basket inside the wooden one. He's attached to both.

The flower size is fairly large about 3/4 the size of a CD the leaves span about 1.5feet maybe more.

Wow - he sure looks happy! Wish I could help you out, but I don't grow any Vandas - just too dry or something, and no place to hang them. You do like purple, dont you?

    Cool No worries

Ya Wolf, that is pretty normal for vandas to be grown that way. They don't generally like wet feet so a very quick draining media or none at all is used. Their roots go all over the place anyway so wouldn't stay confined in a pot for long.

cool, Thanks Pavel for the information...

Ok one quick question. I recently also aquired a Vanda - Renathopsis Ng Chong Teng should it also be a basket case or would it rather be potted or basketed with media?

Diane, I didn't pick this one, Joe my partner did. I tend to lean more toward reds nice dark rich reds but purple is good too. Actually I didn't pick any of the purple ones. the big floofy one was an abandoned one, my other purple one was also picked out by Joe. LOL So there ya go. Joe purple Wolf red.

Renathopsis should be a good one for you then. Renanthera tend to have a beautiful intense red colour.

I'd recommend a basket for it. If you put anthing in the basket, it should be very open. Large lava rock (maybe 3/4" diameter) has been working well for a terete Vanda I have.

WOW, that is awesome. Great photo. I wish I had the high light conditions for Vandas...maybe soon when I move!

Naw. I like them all really. Besides Diane I think shipping would be prohibitive on that one... Big plant.
