    Default Moth orchid problems

I live in Nevada where it is very dry so I run humidifiers to keep humidity at the right level. I have a moth orchid that is doing very well here but whenever new roots start growing after they get about an inch long they start withering then fall off. What causes this? Thanks

I have a moth orchid that new roots grow for a bit then wither and fall off. What may be the cause?

It's possible that it's the lack of humidity. You could try a humidity tray. I have a little spray bottle and I mist the aerial roots and the roots on the surface of the medium almost every day. I read somewhere that misting that area also promotes new roots. Just don't mist in the evening. Excess moisture at night can promote fungus.

I'm with Jeff--do what you can to raise the humidity. Hope that it will help!

Thanks, sorry it took so long to reply. Busy. The orchid otherwise is doing great. It now is sending up new leaves and getting ready to bloom. most of the roots look good but when a root is developed on to of a leaf and not in the soil it withers and dies.
