This is my best 'wild collected' Paph niveum and I have decided to give it the varietal name 'Maura' to thank Maura for her generosity in donating the prize for MOTY 2011. I collected this particular plant 25 years ago from a limestone hill about 12 miles from where I live. Kedah, my home state had sizable populations of niveum in various locations and I have collected plants from 3 well-known places. Among the plants I have collected this is one of the best, if not the best and used to carry a varietal name denoting the location it was collected from. I have decided to name it 'Maura' to honour a brave and generous lady in OT.
The bloom is quite big by niveum standards about 2 1/2 inches high and almost 3 inches across. The flower stem is 5 inches tall and is quite stout and so supports and displays the blooms well.
So here's to you Maura and Phillip - just my way of saying THANKS.
