Pity the poor Rhynchostele - she has had more names than most. A fairly simple hybrid , using the old names ( Mark1 ) Odontoglossum rossii x Od, bictoniense = Odm Bic-Ross, then back crossed onto bictoniense.
But Odm bictoniense became a Lemboglossum ( Mark 2) , and Odm rossii became something else which I have now forgotten, maybe an Oncidium. I bouight this hybrid when first offered some years ago under the generic name Odontonia ! This current plant was sold to me as a straight odontoglossum; what a mess.
The rossii parent looks just like this, few flowered, but just brown and white ; the bictoniense parent is similar to this, but less marking on the petals and much smaller - not that this is a giant , flowers maybe 4 cm, 5cm at the most. The 2nd generation is no doubt an attempt to get bictoniense flower count back into the grex , since bic' will produce tall even branched spikes of 20 + flowers , but alas, it doesn't seem to have worked. Still, it's a pretty little thing, takes up no space at all, and easy to grow.
Will be found under many mangled versions of the name - e.g. Memoria Violetta von Holm ( as far as I know she is still alive !) ; mine - this plant - was labelled it as Remember Van Holm !
