it's been a very crazy couple of months.. been experiencing a bit of my own personal 2012... and that's kept me a bit busy... holding yourself together can be time consuming hard work!
at least my plants have been good to me...and i have missed the great people of OT so very much... didnt realize how therapeutic reading all yalls posts really is!
so ive had a ton of blooms that i will try to get some pics up of... but this one, this was a rare find and a reward to myself for having not gone completely insane yet! im please as punch with it!




sorry, bit overboard with the pics... it's a shame tho, havent really had time to take good pics of any of my blooms recently :-(

Great shots, Shane, of a weird looking but beautiful orchid. Nearly bought one a couple of months ago, but was too expensive for me. Glad you're back with us and do miss your sense of humour. Spend more time with your orchids, talk to them and take lots of pictures. Hope you get over your 2012 soon and be your usual effervescent self.

Love your pictures, especially the closeups - don't why but they remind me of the makeup on the faces of the Actors in Chinese operas.

you are so right about it looking like chinese opera makeup! i was thinking it had a look about it but couldnt place it...and thats exactly it!
i was rather lucky in getting this one, ive only ever found VERY young plants from only one vendor... which of course i bought... but are years away from blooming... i was nearly finished walking through the market when i saw this one, she wanted 1200nt (40us) for it but i only had half that in my wallet... she screamed and yelled at me and told me to go to the ATM, but i walked out of there with it for the 600nt i had!
it's been living in my bathroom making me very happy indeed... had no idea they smelled so good!

all i can say is... GET ONE!!! i wanted one for so long and everyday that i spent looking at the 3 babies i bought ages ago, checking for microns of growth, was torture!!! finally finding one of flowering size was a dream! i was in a SERIOUS funk, and that says a lot because i am delusionally optimistic, this plant purchase worked wonders... that and listening to a lot of pre 80s elton john... dont judge, it works!

Betty! its about 2feet+ and i didnt know it has such a wonderful smell! like many others, the intensity of the smell fluctuates throughout the day... been keeping it in my bathroom and sometimes it's like walking into a wall of humid perfumy loveliness!

I really love this one. My plant didn't bloom this year even though it is really large. It had two spikes that formed in the fall but they aborted. Yours is beautiful. Hope things are getting better for you.
