One of the larger Ascocendas, which indeed looks like a Vanda, and behaves like a vanda for example in terms of number of flowers. About 7 or 8 here, which is average to fairly good. More than 8 would be definitely good. Flowers about 3 inches - 7 - 8 cm dia. Has Tubtim Velvet as one parent - the only other large flowered white ascda that I know.
This year, for the first time, there are a couple of flowers deformed by having one of the two petals twisted out of its true position ; I chose a viewpoint for the camera which minimises or avoids showing this . I don't know the cause - I have discussed it in another posting earlier today , which ( if you read this soon enough) you wll find in the listing of New Posts , otherwise in Orchid Ailments forum. Any comments about it will be bread with interest - I am hoping it was just a one-off unique event which caused it, and I shan't see it again - but 5 out of the 10 vandas currently in flower show this on one or more flowers. Another set of plants are in advanced bud, and I shall be watching those , fingers crossed !

It is a beautiful white ascocenda orchid. Regarding the deformation in your vanda type orchids - perhaps this is due to a spray to control pest. Seems like I've seen posts here saying that some chemicals can cause bloom distortion. Since this is in more than one orchid, perhaps it is a chemical or fertilizer? Or maybe a change in water ph?

    cheers,
    BD

Not pH - I always check and adjust. No change in fertiliser mixes either. I too think probably the insecticide - I have used several different ones over the last year in killing off th Bois-Duval scale after learning that the Bayer Provado was used by them as a light refreshment (!), and whilst most of my activity has been directed to the cattleyas, there has been the odd occasion when I sprayed everything in the greenhouse. The fact that other orchids have not been affected does not change that view - remember the way Malathion damaged phallies, but was harmless on cymbidiums etc !.

Wow...how pretty is that! Sigh...i'm getting hooked on the vanda's! Gonna need a ten step program to stop buying them soon! They are so NOT going to fit in the greenhouse this fall.

Lovely white. I like the crystalline texture of the petals/
