This poor thing has had a very hard life with me. I have had it for about 4 years. firstly it was put in the shade house with other Catts. it did not flower during a 2 yr period. Then came the hurricane when I had to rescue, as many plants as I could, to the safety of the garage. When setting them back up this plant got put among the Dens.which is far more sun than it should have been getting. I noticed these dark, purplish, dimpled spots. I paniced (virus) and removed it far away from my other orchids, and to a position where again it was getting more direct sun than it should.
This year it gave me this beautiful spike.
Have a look at these attached leaves and tell me whether this is too much sun or something more sinister. I would hate to have to bannish it forever.

That's a beautiful catt.. I love the dark colors. Is it fragrant?

It looks like a bifoliate and they are very sensitive to changes in their environment. I've had them refuse to bloom for one whole blooming season after being repotted. Recently I found out that bifloliate catts should only be repotted when new roots have just started to grow.

The leaves look to me like there's more going on than just sun burn. Maybe the spots started out as sunburn but a fungus or bacteria infected the burned areas. Mites is another possibility. If you have Physan 20 you might want to use it. If not, just wash both sides of the leaves with soap and water, some people add some rubbing alcohol, and place the orchid in a little less light. Hopefully it will start growing some healthy new foliage. Good luck.

Beautiful blooms. I love the color. I would clean the leaves and give it every chance possible to put out new leaves. Personally the foliage of an orchid is not the reason I grow them----it's for those beautiful blooms like yours.

Wonderful blooms, doesn't look like a virus to me but sun burn and associated maladies. Bifoliates have lesser stored water in their pseudobulbs and tend to get sunburned in this fashion when they get enough or excessive light.
