Back in December one of my coworkers brought me a lovely mini phal as a gift to congratulate me on a promotion. Unfortunately, all the blooms withered and died almost immediately from cold shock on the way to the office. Silly me didn't think to repot it out of the tightly packed sphag it was in, so it suffered serious root rot on account of my over-watering it (even though I tried really hard not to!) About two months ago I took it out of the pot, dunked the "root" ball (sphag and all) in KLN solution and threw it in a clear ziploc bag. Today I decided to check up on it since it didn't appear to have any new roots, but the leaves are still a grassy green if a little wrinkly. I searched OT for some other methods of sphag & bag since I thought maybe I just wasn't doing it right. I found this one: http://www.rv-orchidworks.com/orchid...roots-yet.html and decided to try her method of keeping the plant above the wet sphag. I pulled it out, pulled all the moss off the plant and cleared away dead roots and what I can only assume were dead leaf bits under the surface when it had been potted. I was surprised to see how healthy the stalk/base/under the leaves seemed to be for seemingly showing no signs of new roots.
I took a couple of shots before putting it in the cup and back in the bag. I'm being very patient with this one because it was a gift and I'd hate to never see it in full bloom.
Are these the starts of new roots?
Is this a new leaf? I don't remember if this little nubbin was there when I bagged it originally.

I hope it rewards me for all the care I've shown it!
