Encyclia Tampensis Mounting??

I've gotten the bug for more variety and it's you guy's fault!! THANKS!!

Now, I've got a little enc. tampensis that I want to mount. (Actually I have no room for it in a pot anywhere it will be happy... ) So - how exactly do I go about mounting it? And on what? I grow absolutely nothing mounted or hanging...

Finally.. something I know alittle about . I love mounted orchids, they are just easier for me to take care of. You can either mount them on cork or tree fern or wood slabs. My local nursery sold me some cabbage palm pieces. I have found that these work the best for me. About a week after I mounted acouple of my orchids on it they showed new root growth towards the wood. I used zip ties to keep mine in place, only because I didnt have any fishing line or string. I placed the orchid where I wanted it to establish itself, drilled holes on either side of the plant and zip tied it in place. Now when you look at the pics, you can see dead roots (I was lazy and didnt want to disturb it any more than I already had). but the pics should give you a general idea of what I did. Im sure there are better ways of doing this, and I would love to see how other people have their orchids mounted.

The first 2 pics are of my Enc. Tampensis and close up of new roots. The last 2 pics are of my Enc. Gay Rabbit and of course its new roots up close.

Hmmm. Mine is just a tiny baby - not even any pbulbs really, just about 5 thin leaves, about 8 inches long. It's in a 1 1/2" little pot right now.

Tracy, I hope you still visit this board, as this is a very old post. I am very curious how those cabbage palm slabs held up for you?

Also appreciate the tampensis information.

Hope this helps give you an idea of a small E tampensis mounted to cork bark. This plant is just 2 yrs. out of the flask. Tampensis love being mounted, and will actually grow better that way than potted usually.

That is awesome. Combining a resurrection fern with an E. tampensis. Something I presume happens quite often in nature.

The palm slabs have lasted for me several seasons, now. I have several anceps planted in Queen palm boots, as well.

Well, thank you. I take that as a compliment to my mount, if you're talking about mine! It is a seed raised in captivity, domestic, non wild tampensis, as I previously mentioned. It has almost doubled its size since those pics.

I've tried getting resurrection ferns to grow on a few orchid mounts. The stems and leaves, even after they fall off, look green and healthy. But the roots never produce any new stems...?? Any tips there?
