Two green hybrids -= first flowerings
A few years ago I had half a dozen flasks of seedlings as a Xmas present. A few have flowered already, and have been shown here ; now another two.
The better shaped one is P.Lemon Hart x ( Betty Bracey x Jolly Green Giant) and the other is Russet Gold x primulinum.
I looked up the parentage of all these names - interstingly enough the profile comes out almost the same for every one of the hybrids ! About 50% is P.insigne - I guess P.insigne v.sanderianum which has this colouring ; about 1/6th is villosum, another 1/6th is spicerianum and there is a bit of boxallii and "others" . So it is not surprising that they all end up more or less the same.
But I like these greens - they are so fresh and clean.
I have also noticed - what other paph enthusiasts will be aware of I'm sure , how seasonal these flowers are. The greens in the autumn - insigne and its varieties all flower Novemberish for me, so its hybrids do so too ; then the whites - because niveum flowers around Xmas and early in the year. The bulk of the complex hybrids follow in the spring. Multi-florals in the summer ( P.rothschildianum is a mid-summer flowering plant for me), and so on.
