re potting a blooming orchid

i recieved a blooming orchid last week and am wodering if i can re-pot it now or should wait until the flowers fall?

unless it needs an emergency re potting, I would wait.

It has enough to adjust to coming into your home. Wait if you can until it is through blooming

that's what I kind of thought. they are doing fine but they are in the same containers packed with moss and want to re-pot them in better containers and in bark. the next question I have is, when they are done blooming , I cut them back for the new growth to take place next year? I have watched video's but just making sure as to what to do. happy growing

what type of orchid did you get? Need that info to answer your question. Be careful with tightly packed moss. Make sure the center is approaching dryness before watering. Keeping a wooden skewer in the pot can help you to decide when it is still wet. Pull the skewer out and see if it is still wet

ron-ny,i was given 3 phalaenopsis plants that i'm wondering about and one that i'm not sure of. it reminds me of a small bamboo plant but with little flowers coming in(if that makes any type of description)? i'm trying to find pictures that might be the plant.

When I first started growing, back in the 1970's, an "old timer" gave me this "sage" advice:

I'm so going to repeat this. Thanks Ray.

I do, however, recommend repotting your new orchids as soon as the blooms fade to a mix that you are comfortable with and fits your watering habits.

You will lose the blooms. I personally would rather lose the flower than the plant. I did lose some plants and had to get new ones. But if you lose the flower and retain the plant; it will re-bloom again; in the next flowering season with some proper culture.
