    Default Cattleya Dandee Tease

    Cattleya Dandee Tease

The parents are C. Beaufort x C. percivaliana

    First blooming of this plant.
Somebody some time ago told me:
"Don't use C. percivaliana to make hybrids. You will regret it."
I did it anyway and the result isn't to throw away and I didn't regret it at all.

Maybe I should use it again in some of the next generation hybrids.

    Really? What was the rationale?

Substance and the small lip I guess.

Stunning, Horst - the red lip is particularly dramatic against the magenta.

I'm curious as to why you were advised against using catt percivaliana in hybridizing.. The shape of this species is generally quite good among the cattleya species..

I assume C. Beaufort has made it a compact plant. Was the warning on using C. percivaliana secondary to many being tetraploid? It turned out very nice!

No, lip shape and texture are not good and have a tendency to be passed on to the offspring.
This person believed that all hybrids have to have a good texture and a big lip to be considered good. Old school thinking!
