Growing in tree fern pots

These are really cute, I'd like to grow an S. Japonica in one. However I got to thinking what about if mealy bugs got inside, would they hide within the pot and be impossible to get rid of?

Impossible? No, but you'd have to do a dunk in the insecticide.

However, that should not be a factor in your decision-making. Instead, you should think about the drying rate of the super-porous and airy pot, and whether your watering abilities and the rest of your cultural conditions make that a good option for you.
