Help! Giant Grasshoppers.

I have recently (as in today) discovered a problem I have never encountered before. Giant flying Grasshoppers eating my plants. Many of the plants I have are sensitive to commercial pesticides and aerosol. Anyone have any advice as to how to deter them from my plants.

manual means??? nets??? some pesticides are not phytotoxic..plz try to find one....but with grasshoppers....by the time they die the damage is done to the plant ...TOO LATE....try to get some friends and kill as much as u can....i do that in the night with flashlights for slugs and katydids

I was thinking the best control for grasshoppers would be chickens or turkeys.

Unfortunately farm chickens and turkeys are illegal where i live . I have tried manual but they just keep coming. We havent had a winter here and Im afraid the pest population has thrived because of it. Ive rid myself of all but these darned grasshoppers. I may only have the net idea to try.

There are two products that I use here with success to keep them from eating my garden in the summer. "Semaspore" is for when they are starting to hatch and are small. "Ecobran" is for adult size/immediate control. I'm sure you can Google the two names and come up with the distributor that I use, since I can't post it here. They have a ton of good stuff that is natural(ish).

Before you use pesticide you might want to try and get one of those BUG light hopefully they might be attracted to it. Just a suggestion best of luck

You don't have to worry BValdes, I hate pesticide (mainly because I deal w/ plants extremely sensitive). I have tried the bug lights (since I am sensitive to mosquitos I have plenty) but no luck. I appreciate the suggestion. Its nice to know that I am not the only one that cant find a better way to eliminate these pests. I don't know which insect I hate more, the cockroach or these grasshoppers .

That is one of the negatives of living in Florida. Lots of bugs, year round!

Not to go all Godly, but AMEN!!!! We do usually get cold enough weather to rid the pests. This year has been an exception.
