first blooming for me. my first brassavola even... at night it smells like a black pepper flavored gardenia.

Very unusual! I love the gardenia's scent! But with black pepper? Do they complement each other?

yes, actually. adds a bit of spicy heat to the seductive gardenia. it has four flowers. it is the second to flower in what originally was my "encyclia tree" but now has a random cattleya alliance going on. it gets quite a bit of early morning sun. this was its first winter outdoors and seems to have done well.

I agree. The fragrance on this plant is very nice and entoxicating. I describe it as a cross between jasmine and brugmansia.
