    Smile Spike or New Growth?

    This is an oncidium phymatochilum. When it arrived in February, it had already sprouted the new growth for the season, so I missed its emergence. Now that new pb has grown and this 'nub' has emerged, which when I read up on its blooming pattern, looks like it could just be the start of the hefty, long, branched spike this species orchid displays.

    So what do you think? Spike or new growth? Either way is ok but I would prefer a spike. I don't believe it has bloomed before.

    Good thing I have it hanging in front of a window.

    Harvey it looks like the spikes on mine when they started out. But I am a newbie and can't be sure. Whatever it is, new growth is always exciting!

    It seems to be growing fast so I think in a week or so it will reveal itself one way or the other. But check out this link:

    I am leaning toward new growth at this point but still unsure. Still hoping spike.
