Neglected Phalaenopsis

Hello. Just recently Oct. 23, 2014. as I was in a temple, I saw three pots of Neglected phalaenopsis. They were put into a corner, because they have finished their bloom. But I saw their ROOTS are all in proper condition.

And I was tempted to bring it back home, to try to save them. So I asked the Caretaker of the Temple, if its ok to let me have those Phalaenopsis, so I can take care of them. He Obliged, and even provided me a plastic bag for me to bring it home.

here are some of the pictures, I hope I can save them. Good luck to me.


The First Picture:
As you can see it already lost all of its leaves, but I saw a basal keiki, so I think it can survive with proper TLC.

The Second Picture:
The topmost leaf has Rot I cut it out and just the other day I sprinkled it with some Cinnamon powder.

The Third Picture:
as you can see, the Condition of the leaves are not very good. but I saw new roots trying to shoot out.

sees like they are in pretty bad shape but there are still hope. first thing they need is to be out of that stuffy pot. good luck!

Can't go anywhere without coming home with an orchid or 2? Me neither! We can't stand to see them die!

I just took on an orchid from a co-worker who is into cats but not orchids so much. It was pretty dry with lots of dead roots. I trimmed the dead ones off and plan on taking bark mix to work and get it out of the sphag it was in. Being in sphag is probably the only reason it is alive at all. I told her when it's ready to bloom again, I'll give it back. But will ask for it back after it is finished blooming. It wouldn't stand a chance with her in bark.

You are right, we can't stand to see them die. Especially they still have hope. They were just neglected, luckily i noticed the roots are in good condition, so i was tempted.

And I was fortunate enough that the caretaker was kind enough to give it to me for care.

I think your chances are good, once you get them out of those pots and clean them up and just take care of them. Have fun!

I've noticed The second phal with the leaf rot is almost to the crown..tsk tsk

I'm treating it now with hydrogen peroxide, until the fizzes stops, and i'll sprinkle it again with cinnamon.

If that does not work, i will use fungicide (chemical).

hydrogen peroxide works only externally. I would recommend you treat it with a systemic fungicide also.You could use a carbendazim or thiophenate methyl. keeping fingers crossed for you.

I am the same way....can't stand to throw one away.....I am tempted in performing recon missions into the big box dumpsters to save the ones they throw away! WHO'S WITH ME?????

I love a good rescue attempt! It is so rewarding if they survive, though I do have some that haven't bloomed for a long time... I can almost never throw away a plant that has any life to it, even if I don't want it! It's worst with the orchids. To me, every leaf and every root is a thrill on those rescues! I live too far away from the big box stores to watch dumpsters, or I'd probably be tempted!

Try working in a nursery that grows orchids . I creap closer to insanity everyday . Throw in the employee discount and trash bins then you will know true temptation! Lord help me.
