Oncidium Quedlinburg

Oncidium - as all these Odontoglossum intergenerics are nowadays - Quedlinburg. A very large flower - 11cm natural spread. But not too many flowers - not sure where that comes from in its mixed parentage. maybe it needs growing to be a much bigger plant first.
Unusual , among yellow flowered odontoglossum types in that the flowers do not fade, but keep their brightness, so well worth having.

No awards for this, so no flower count comparison there, but based on ancestry it does seem like it should be capable of more flowers than I see here. But definitely a keeper with that color and size. Oncostele (Ons.) though, not Oncidium. One ancestor went from Odontoglossum to Rhynchostele and never got swept up with the Oncidium broom.

Aha, yes - that was Odontoglossum bictoniense, as we used to call it . Named for the orchid collection at Bicton House - a big country estate in South Devon ( South -west UK ) . Now I think a local authority home for problem kids ! By coincidence, I drove past it last week , on my way to a walking holiday on the moors. Not that I can see anything of O.bict' here !

Agreed. 3 generations back and not a clear trace to be seen here. Maybe it contributes to the non-fading characteristic though.
