Default Encyclia (Prosthechea) Cochleata in Bloom

Meet Morgana, she bloomed about 2-3 days ago while I was away and is the second Encyclia Cochleata that I have. Orchids seem to like it when I leave them alone.

The first Cochleata that I have isn't as purple as Morgana. I called that one Ursula. Unfortunately she isn't in bloom. But here is how she looked like when she was. I don't take credit for her blooms:

Clearly I'm pretty satisfied with Morgana's dark purple color, but I'm also happy with Ursula just because probably one of them is a Green Hornet and other isn't. I'm still unclear how people can tell which is a Green Hornet and which isn't since they both are said to look the same.

    Nice, young orchid!

Have you ever seen a specimen Enc cochleata in bloom? Quite an impressive display! And the earthy, spicy scent!

Very nice. I always keep telling myself that I need one, but whenever I have the opportunity to get one, there are others that I want as well. Next show perhaps.

No I have not. I tried sniffing my orchid lol. It only smells depends on it's mood. Very can't but can't really pick what kind of fragrance it was emitting. Perhaps it is as you said, earthly spicy scent.

Many orchids have a time of day that they emit their perfume. Depends on the habits of their natural pollinator- ie what time of day the pollinator is active.
