Ilonara Abigail Dancing

I was exited to see the first two blossoms on this hybrid open today. It came last year with the one blossom destroyed in shipping so I did not know what it would look like and there are no images of this hybrid that I can find. The blossom is about an inch tall - quite a bit larger than a Tolumnia blossom and kind of fleshy. The leaves look like large, fat Tolumnia leaves

It was labeled as Otz Chantilly Mist X Rdcm Spring Bouquet but in searching it out the registered name it is Ilonara Chantilly Mist X Rodrumnia Spring Bouquet. I don't know if Rdcm was an error or if Spring Bouquet was reassigned to Rodrumnia.

Tiny bit out of focus. I'll get more photos when all of the buds open.

Very pretty! For me, I get to see a sunny blossom on a cold, snowy (very white) day!

That's a stunning flower, and being larger and heavier texture than Tolumnia must really make it pop in person.

The names were all correct in their time.

Rodricidium (Rdcm.) (Oncidium x Rodriguezia) was from a time before Tolumnia, when those plants were known as equitant Oncidium, and is now known as Rodrumnia (Rrm.) (Rodriguezia x Tolumnia).

Ontolezia (Otz.) (Oncidium x Rodrigezia x Tolumnia) was from a time before Gomeza came in for some former Oncidium, and is now known as Ilonara (Ilo.) (Gomeza x Rodriguezia x Tolumnia).

This cross is about 90%+ Tolumnia, but over at least 10 generations of breeding the 7%+ contribution from Gomeza and Rodriguezia apparently helped select for larger and better textured flowers. There's 3% unknown something in there too but it is probably more Gomeza.
