Updated the Quick Reply function...

Hi everyone!

I just updated the forum's quick reply function. Now you should not have to click the icon to get access to the quick reply text box. I also found a way to enable some of the advanced editing options in the quick reply text box! So this should make it easier to reply to your favorite post! Enjoy.

You make me smile! Okay, it took a bit of effort, but I made a couple of snap shots of the new 'Quick Reply' and then I reverted us back to the old 'Quick Reply' and made a couple of snap shots. We are now back to the updated version. Below I will post the differences. In the first image you will see the original 'Quick Reply' text box. Notice that it is inactive (grey) until you click the icon in the image marked with the letter "A". This icon is found in the lower corner of a post that one may reply to along with the "quote" icon. Also notice that in its original format, it did not have any Bold, Italics, etc., functions, just a place to reply with basic text.



In this image, (the updated 'Quick Reply') notice the text box is always active and ready for your responses! It also has some basic editing function buttons. Better I hope? Also, if you want to go to the advanced reply it will give you the same options as before with the 'Post Reply' button.




I hope this was not too complex. I like the 'quick reply' feature in this forum software. I will continue to study how the software works to see if there are any other features that might be helpful to everyone.

Ok, I get how it works.

But it doesn't have all of the editing (as you said) and it's not WYSIWYG. The imbedded tags appear until you post.

So what advantage does it have? It doesn't seem any quicker?

And sorry for all the screen shot work, BD! But thanks for helping my confusion! If only a little...

I set it up as the standard editor, Julie. WYSIWYG is an option, but it would take longer to load because it uses more resources. No worries about the screen shots. I hope it will help others who had the same question!

I tend to use the quick reply option a fair bit... only when I want to use smilies and can't remember the tags for them will I "Go Advanced"... so for me, this is one less click of a button... which for lazy guys like me, is a wonderful advancement of mankind

"wonderful advancement of mankind" well, I am not sure about that, but it should make replying to a thread a bit quicker for folks with slower Internet connections.
