Hi everyone!
I think this is my first thread on the forum since my introduction thread.
I got this Cattleya dowiana 6 months ago with a new lead emerging, several viable roots but not attaching to the medium. Being a watering lover, I use the opportunity to mount this orchid. But unfortunately several weeks after that I had to get rid of the new lead because it shows signs of rot. The plants then recovered, grew some new roots into the substrate (tree fern slab) THEN sprouted a new lead, which somehow looked like it'd crash the slab. I was afraid to reposition it, because it had already rooted into the slab, so I carefully chipped the slab to provide space. In PICTURE NO 1 you can see the chipped area (rounded) and the respective pseudobulb (which is mature now).
Then it give me another new leads. I tried to chip the slab again, but unfortunately this time I wound one of the new leads before I could even chip enough. Scared, I stop all the way and treated the wound with cinnamon, pause watering for a day, followed by fungicide the next day. Now the leads has started growing taller ever since (feeling relieved).
MY QUESTION IS : What should I do with this plant? Will they somehow find the way out, like growing new lead in the right position so as to avoid crash with the slab by themselves? Or shall I take further action? If so, I think it'll be better to wait until current leads mature, right?
I can't quite locate the growth eyes as for now.
Thank you in advance
Baruna
