Aerides quinquevulnera var flava

About a year ago I bought several Aerides quiquevulnera var. flava only two of which had blooms. The variety flava is basically the same quinquevulnera but with light yellow instead of white base color. Even then, the yellow was a bit too light and even muddy, with few specks of red – purple that marks a quinquevulnera on the sepals and petals. Also, the lip was light purple-pink.

Well, one of then is blooming, albeit not too well, I suspect because of the location it is in. As you can see, the lip is white, the base color is butter or lemon yellow, there are no specks of red-purple, and the tips of the sepals and petals do not have the intense red color (quinquevulnera = five wounds).

I think this is an interesting variety. Whether it remains a flava, an alba (the classical alba form is the variety farmeri, and it is all white), or some other undescribed variety, I think I shall be holding on to it.

Those are some beautiful blooms, and pictures. I love aerides! When they get the chance to grow alot they get huge. I have a friend that has an aerides that is so big it makes a large staghorn fern look small! When I first saw it I had to ask how many plants he had tied together to make that one. I have an ordorata, and the blooms smell so good and look so good I have thought about eating one of them!

Their fragrance can be quite pronounced.

I actually prefer your coloration - it's so pure and clean. Subtle hints of purple at the tips of the petals. It's lovely. Definitely a keeper!

I think this variety is the albino form of Aerides quinquevulnera .I like it very much but i can't get this coloration.
