I bought a Lycaste breuvispatha X matagrossens at the Ark. club auction would appreciate growing tips , I did some reasearch but would rather hear it from my OT. friends . Gin

Hi Gin,

I've delved into Lycaste recently and have some good sources of info. Good cultural info will depend on what the parentage is on your plant. What did you get? I can get the species percentages off Orchidwiz and point you to the sub-sections of Lycaste that are appropriate for your guy.

Some sections are semi-deciduous and some are fully deciduous, and it really helps to know that. Watching healthy leaves turn yellow and drop is always freaky. It's a bit less so, if you know to expect it!

Lycaste brevispatha note the spelling is a fully deciduous pink species.

Phil's Orchid World has good info on the genus, sections, species and culture, but the navigation is quite klunky and it's easy to miss stuff. So I'll just list the individual links. Note that this is a New Zealand site, so flip the months if it gets into winter vs. summer season!

I can't find what section mattogrossensis note the spelling belongs to, but I've PM'ed Pat Mahon. He's up on Central American species, so I'm figuring he'll know.
