Conflicting Cattleya Advice

The Blc. Greenwich 'Killarney' has a serious fungal rot problem. Friend and orchid enthusiast, Les advises repotting after excising all infected tissue and treating the healthy tissue with a copper sulfate anti-fungal solution. Orchid house worker, Dick advises to never repot Catts at this time of year. He thinks I should remove the above soil, visible rot and treat with Orthanex. Then repot in the spring.

I need to do somthing stat.

Mark, I don't know your plant's particulars, but if it's concerning you this much, repot it!

That's always better than letting a bad situation continue. Worst case you slow a blooming cycle a bit. Best case, you keep from croaking it!

Time of year is only important to preserve bloom cycle, like Julie said. Surgery and new media is the solution.

Repot, you don't want to risk the presence of fungal spores/hyphae in the old media. It isn't worth the risk.
