How long can a phal keep blooming on the same spike? Mine has been blooming off and on on the same spike since Aug. 17, 2005. It is now on its 4th set of blooms.

They can sometimes flower for a long while but the size & quality can suffer.
My Phal Baldans Kaleidoscope is in flower to & has been for about 6 months or so but i will cut the spike before it extends/branches & give it a rest.

When these puppies get big, they're prodigious! My has massive leaves and bloomed last year from Feb-Aug before I gave it a rest. After the first 8 blooms, it put out 13 more. Quite the show.

Don't you just love this phal? Mine bloomed for many months last year, got mealies in the flowers pretty bad, so I cut the spikes off--and it immediately sent up new ones which are probably about a month out. This is the most vigorous phal I have and is so rewarding.

I finally cut the spike on mine as well. A very vigorous cultivar, but I don't like the look when the spikes get too over extended...
