This is the Pot. Harng Tay 'Fantastic' that I mentioned getting a little while a go -- my first catt. There are three of what I assume to be flower spikes . . . is that right? (I hope so! )

Any tips from the experts to keep those spikes growing (if that is in fact what they are.) Also -- I've got new root growth and a new plant growth as well.

Can I just say I am thrilled -- it looks like there are many more floofs in my future.

Okay. I have obviously stumbled into something I know nothing about -- what are the possible outcomes of the "mystery?"

I guess I need to get a book about the cattleya alliance.

Well, it could be a sheath.>> Or, it could be a leaf.>> Or, it could be nothing at all. It would really be a guess from the photo. Unless a catt expert chimes in, you may not find out for a bit. I never look at the catts until I see buds or a bloom. They hang well above head height in the GH. Give it a few days and see what it looks like then. Patience grasshopper....

The plant is looking healthy and is sending new growths

In the first photo: I'm thinking that particular one isn't going to grow anything because of the brown tip on the meristem (The bump in the middle of the leaf, I hope its called a type of meristem). At least I don't get anything from them unless the meristem are green on the newest plump growths, then its a leaf or sheath. I have too many unbloomed growths with brown tipped meristems like that and I blame that I don't have glass house conditions (If I was wrong and they all bloomed at once that would be superb!). Sometimes leaves don't throw out a sheath. Could be a lighting or fertilizer issue for me. But I need more experience with catts (my mom tends them), and read more about them. I've got a few new ones underlights now. So why do the meristem get brown tipped? Is it low humidity, light or fertilizer?

I don't think your first photo is anything beyond wishful thinking, Sadie! Sheaths and spikes will form from new growth. When those growths in the second photo grow up, they'll hopefully put out sheaths. If the plant is happy, spikes will form out of the sheaths.

Sigh. . . I guess I can take solace in the fact that in the short time I've had him, he's put out two new growth buds and several roots.
