    Default terrarium, vivarium, orchidarium :)

Soo now I took the step and build myself the closet thing I can get to a greenhouse in the appartment. I bought all the glass and assembled it all on our dining table still waiting for the front pieces to arrive..

The background is made from expansion foam with roots and cork bark covered with aquarium silicone and coco nut fibres. Still need to get the bottom done here to

I have installed to computer fans - you can see the "cave" for one of them on the second picture.

Now here's what I would like to know: Which plants should (could) I put in there?? I've recently bought a Phal. lobbii and dend. kingianum which are going.. And I've got some mini catts. to and perhaps a paph or two at the bottom. The "tank" is 6 feet tall so I can get a good temperature and light difference from top to bottom.
I was thinkin some bulbophyllum and masd. but which are easy growers and pretty to?

Cool....luv it! I've never see this grow setup before (understandable since I'm very new to orchids). Really like it! I know you'll fill it up with wonderful plants.....best of luck.

not sure how I missed this before...I will be building an Orchid Spa/Vivarium this winter bought a 4 tube 4 foot T5 florescent unit for the light It will be mounted above the top glass. I decided mine will be a Pleuro mostly case. One everything is set up, I will consider adding a couple of poison dart frogs

Sorry to hear about the tooth-removal!

Looks pretty neat, Christian. One issue you may have with lighting, however, is getting enough light to the bottom without frying the plants at the top -- 6 feet is a long way for light to travel & not lose a lot of intensity. Is that a fan near the bottom of the case in the first picture? Considering the height of the case overall you will likely need one there.

Will you be watering it with a spray bottle or are you installing a misting system?

Wow, that is a beautiful creation there!
I have to agree with pavel. Some spot lights on the bottom has would be helpful.

Yeah I've been wondering about that lighting issue to I think I'll have a look when I get the first flourecents in there, and the decide what to do. For now the plan is to buy some spot light bulbs and se how that goes.

I'm starting out with a hand mister but I'm planning on constructing a misting system from the nossles of some hand misters (I found out that a terrarium misting system costs allmost as much as the rest of the tank so far.. and I'm a poor student :P)

It is a fan there at the bottom.. For now I have them both set on the same power supply but if I get to high temperatures at the top I might put them on individual ones since the top one will have to be turned on more often than the bottom one It's a learning experience for me so I don't mind ajusting stuff as I go. Thank you for your input - suggestions as to how I can solve the potential lighting "problem" are more than welcome.

I just bought a misting bump (Diaphragm Pump) with $50. This bump needs a 12vdc/6A power supply which will be another $19. The misting system will need a 1 minute resolution timer which I already have, otherwise would cost $20. Some tubing and spraying nozzles and connectors which would add another $30-50. Overall still cheaper than those on the market.

Looks good. I hope you get all the lighting and misting issues worked out.

    Cheers,
