Uh oh couldn't resist a NOID

Picked this guy up while buying some food for dinner as he's just so different from the standard pink and white Phals that are normally sold in supermarkets. He has huge, slightly pointy leaves, branching spikes and quite a few buds which I hope won't blast.

Is amboinense the same as amboinensis?

It has such large leaves though do you think it might have gigantea in it?

you're right! it's amboinensis. Oops I typed it wrong on my orchid collection list (which I cut and pasted from), but my plant is labelled correctly. I have phal dyslexia Sorry I my mind is focused on the slipper orchids. gigantea could be possible I suppose if the leaves are really big. They are also used in spotted breeding.
I love spotted yellows, they bloom all year long, non-stop, I also wish I had an ID for the one I gave to my mom a while back....

I like the sound of all those year round blooms. It does need repotting so I might have to risk some of the current ones.

the sibbling plants when I was purchasing all had labels... I was so dumb at the time, I picked up the one with no label at the grocery store and I didn't bother to look up the name...
This yellow guy has been in continuous bloom for two years I think, and it's now on three spikes with blooms

Oh that's a real shame about the label. Mine just said "orchid ceramic" because it came with an extra ceramic pot to put it into so no chance of the name at all.

Yes it does seem to be a failing of our supermakets and shops to never ever have orchids with labels. Even all the garden centres I have been to fail to identify hybrids. You are lucky if they tell you it's a miltonia or a phalaenopsis. Mind you, it hasn't stopped me wanting to buy them so far....
