Possibly my favorite (legal) species, Paphiopedilum kolopakingii is found in Borneo as a cliff-side semi-lithophyte. It was named after Atmo Kolopaking, a famous orchid collector from Indonesia. Here it is in bloom...

It sure is lovely! The flowers looks like they are all in flight...
A nice gargantuan Paph, Pat! I have a seedling of a selfing of 'Riopelle', but it's many years and meters away from blooming. Kolo doesn't seem that fast a grower. I also have a NBS kolo x randsii that's taking it's sweet time doing anything.
Oh well...I'll look at your pics for satisfaction!

Wellenstein's 'Riopelle' is a very nice plant! I'm sure the selfing will add a little more variability to the species...
My Paph. kolopakingii x Paph. randsii is starting to spike right now, with a leafspan around 30"... it is my ONE and ONLY remaining man-made Paph. hybrid... hopefully the flowers don't inherit the "Randsii Wilting"...

Oh dear... what's the wilting?
McJulie
Very nice.
My kolo is quite a bit of flowering size.
Paph kolopakingii can get huge & it does pass it along to some of it's hybrids.
I have a paph Bel Royal that has a leafspan in excess of 3 feet(individual leaves are over 22" long)
very nice! any fragrance?
Eew! That will surely make the Bulbo owners smile!
