S/H pot dimentions

What is a good ratio (height to diameter) for round S/H pots?

Same question for more rectangle shaped pots.

hmmm I was going to ask a similar question and a few extra as well...
1 can two litter bottles from your fav soda pop be used?
2 how about bottles from juice IE the ones that are fairly square?
3 Would the quart and 2 quart containers available in paint departments of the large box stores work?
4 I posted an idea in the first S/H topic about putting window screen in to stop roots from going down into the water, (bad root no fertilizer), would that work or would it stop the wicking action or has anyone tried it or something similar?

I use standard pots with lava rock and an external reservoir (assorted bowls). all wick the water up to with in an inch or so from the surface. Humidity is a problem for me. The 2 litter soda pop bottles will wick the water up a long way but they are rather flimsy for my taste. Why do you want to stop the roots from going into the fertilizer solution. My experience is that some plants (primarily the onc. alliance) will grow straight down once they hit the water and others (cat alliance) will turn and not go into the fertilizer solution. Haven't tried the square juice bottles or paint containers but have eyed the newer plastic gallon paint cans.

Well in the sticky thread at the top of this cat, there was some concern about roots getting into the solution and going bad ie rotting and etc. So I thought that the screen would work.
