    Default Stanhopea wardii

    These originate in Venezuela, Peru, and Nicaragua, and the blooms look to me like monster's faces, something you'd see Arnold fighting in a Predator remake. The flowers only last a few days, but this year, the spikes are maturing in sequence instead of all at once.

    beautiful. Stans are my personal favorites, think it's their sculptural qualities. nice growing, sir.

    don't have a wardii.......yet. maybe next blooming season I can add a few stan pics...

    Hello LJA. I have Stan also but I really have no idea how to plant it. I heard that it flowers upside down so I really don't know where to put it. I knew I should put in basket that has hole on it but I just can't found it. Does the spike really comes below the foliage/bulb or side of the foliage/bulb? Pls help.

    Plant it in a basket. It blooms out of the bottom of the plant.

    Yup. Like Bruce says- the spike goes STRAIGHT down. Basket only!

    Tanya, I salute you: I have long been trying to think what they remind me of, and it is OF COURSE squid with wings. Brilliant! S wardii has such cute big black eyes too, a real charmer.
