After the second orchid stand was build it looked awefully empty. I decided to try something new when I saw this almost out of bloom NOID fella. Does anyone know what it is? I know it's nearly impossible but anything will do at this point. I don't even know what nursery it comes from, sorry.

Any advice on the Genus or Grex would be helpful as well as how and what to pot this guy in?

Well it's in the oncid alliance, I think, but that as far as I can go.

I am wondering if it is a Miltassia. don't know enough to say one way or anotther.

The shape of the leaves, shape of the pseudobulb and especially the yellowish tip and spots/dots on the leaves say Oncidium to me, like Alcra Sunday's Best 'Muffin'?

I've searched for Miltassia and the plant shape looks quite similar. So I guess they take a bit less light than Catt and like to stay a bit wetter. Will semi hydroponics do for this guy?

Definitely!! Anything in the oncid alliance really thrives in S&H; I have milts, bilras and oncids in S&H and all doing exceptionally well. Put it in a clear pot and watch the roots grow like madness!

Is it okay to pot the older lower p-bulbs half or 3/4 into the medium or will they go belly up if I do this?

I'm not sure as far as Miltassia's go, but I would think it would be ok. I think a lot of oncids and their ilk may require you partially bury their older bulbs because of their growth habit. Don't quote me on it though, as this is just something I'm only partially remembering and I don't even know where I heard it at. I know when I repotted my Vuylstekeara I had to partially bury the older bulbs. But then again, that went into a bark mix, and with S/H you have to worry about the constant moisture. I think you should be ok, but don't hold me to it...
