side of Thanksgiving, so I hope you all belch and...well whatever...with warm pleasure this holiday evening!

I usually get several offers from friends to join them for Thanksgiving and Christmas (I hate air travel during the holidays, so I don't fly down to see my family in Florida) and I love spending holidays with close friends.

But some years, everyone else seems to be heading out of town, and I find myself home alone. This was one of those years. I don't really mind, and less so on Thanksgiving than Christmas. I was looking forward to a quiet day of writing today where I didn't have to worry about frantic "drop everything and rewrite this" calls from my editor, or other requests for help from friends, most of which just suck up my time.

I have good friends who have a 150-acre farm about 45 mins north, and we've had great adventures on their farm this season, and I work for them each Sat in the summer at the local farmers' market here in Marblehead (see the video here...Karen and Glen Cook are my buddies, and I've helped collect the eggs on many a day!)


Anyway, I was talking with Glenn last night to wish them a Happy Thanksgiving and when he asked how I would spend the holiday, he insisted that I join his family. What a perfect way to spend Thanksgiving - on a farm! We had 22 people, 2 20+ lb turkeys, more mashed potatoes, carrots, and squash each boiled in its own lobster pot! 8 or 9 pies of all types, which Glenn baked this morning in the now-closed farm store's bakery. Some after-dinner bagpiping on the back porch. Plenty of vino, and wonderful, whacky, loving friends. What more could one want?

I didn't think it could get any better. But as I was getting into my car tonight to leave, my cell phone was making strange noises. I don't ever use text messages so I wasn't familiar with the beeps, but it seems I'd received one while I had been gorging myself. It said:

Happy Thanksgiving Day! Enjoy the eating! Hoa.

I'm most thankful for mine and my family's health, but immediately next in line, I'm grateful for all the wonderful friends who grace my life. So many are on this forum! Hoa, thanks for thinking of me, and I hope your holiday was also Spocktacular! Your message was the perfect ending to a fantastic day!

Glad that you had a great T-Day Julie, we too enjoyed the day with friends and family. Brined the bird and it was great along with ham and all of the trimmings.

I came home with a "people bag" filled with leftovers and a "kitty bag" for the usual suspects. The rat can translate, if necessary...

Tom is a steady lad, and loves a good chow on T-day, but Teka's digestive system is more delicate...and she gulped down the feast I offered upon my return home.

...I'm sure I'll be blessed with cat puke on my pillow by morning.

I went to my sister's to join her and my folks. We ate well, played Scattegories, and talked for a while. A very nice time!
