Dendrobium

Hi all, i havent posted in a while but i have a question.

Mothers day i was given a Dendrobium, thay said it was a Japanese Dendrobium, anyway it has flowers up and down the stalks and just smells sooo good, well my question is, will it grow more flowers in the same place (on the same stalks that is) as the first ones, or will it need to grow new stalks first?

my first post i was talking about an orchid i have had for the last 10 or 11 years with no blooms, still no blooms but its trying to look better.

also i have aquired 9 in all in the last few months, and all are doing great, putting on new growth and all, no blooms yet but who knows? i havent killed them yet hehe, im bad about things not growing for me, husband said he couldnt belive i finally found something that would grow for me.

a pic would be helpful. the only Japanese Dend I know is Dendrobium moniliforme. You may wish to google pics of this species to see if it looks like yours

If you have a nobile dendrobium, it will need to produce new canes and then produce flowers on those canes.

It sounds like maybe you have a light issue - I don't know of any orchid that would take 10 years before blooming! Can you move them to more light? Maybe an east or west window?

Multifloral Paphs are notorious for taking more than 10 years to bloom .

i have vista, the program that you need to resize is xp so no pix
the one that hasnt bloomed has been neglected so long i dont think its a light issue, but its looking better now that i found this site.
as for the other one, its putting out new canes in 3 places so i guess all is well

You can resize with another program in your computer and then upload here (that is what I am doing). I am using Microsoft office but there are other programs that can do the job.

I have windows Vista and use Microsoft Paint that comes on the computer it is very simple to use and I have no problems and I am not a techinical person, I have photo shop but tend to get a bit lost in there.
