Reverse Osmosis System

Hey there. I am considering a reverse osmosis system and I'm curious if anyone else uses one. If so, any real difference between a 4-stage and a 5-stage (other than cost?) Anything I should watch out for--replacement filter size that is impossible to find, or common problem brands etc? If you know of a good source, I'd love you to PM me. Thanks so much.

i'm just considering it too. i made some searchs and a specialist store (vendor) recommend one for my house (it's also for others uses like cooking and drinking). It fits well in a small place like under kitchen sink, and is recommended for domestics uses ( and of course for watering orchids too)
the features are:
tall - 35 cm; width - 40 cm; depth - 15 cm;out flow water - 190 liters/day

If in your space (of growing) the pressure doesn't reach 2,1 kgf/cm² it's necessary to install a hydraulic pump.

it's not made in Brasil, I can ask where it's made from, if somebody is interested. I'm still looking for more informations and going in search of this.
I'm worried because they told me the PH is 7,0 (neutral) after filtration process.

i'd appreciate if anyone could say if its good, cause it's a bit expensive and I'm not sure if it'll work well for my purposes.

There is no big difference between 4 and 5 stage- 5 stage is good for well water. Also is depending of the water you are going to use (city or well). Once you start using it you must always have water in it. You shouldnt have any problems with finding filters.

Okay - so Margo the wonder woman and her Angel husband (that is actually his name) looked at the system I was considering and the whole RO idea has some serious down sides for me.

1) No way to warm the water in the winter -- can't run warm water through it and I don't want to water with cold water

2) I would only have 4 gallons at a time, with a couple hours of wait time in between. that just won't work

3) my water pressure won't be enough after it is through the filter

4) I'll have to remove any chlorine with another filter first

Well you are seeing my dilemma--for me to make it work, there is a lot more cost than just the actual RO unit. So I am back to thinking of how to make hte most with what I've got, which is city water that has worked just fine for the last 9 years.

I have a few comments/questions to your downsides you have listed:

1) I collect water in 5 gallon buckets, during the winter, I simply take some RO water and heat it up in a tea kettle and add it to the water I have collected....this way I can control the temperature in the winter to where I want it to be.

2) I use two 5 gallon buckets at watering time. I simply just begin collecting a day or so before I know I am going to water. Not sure what your orchid collection size is. But I have about 75 orchids and the system seems to work well for me.

3) We have low water pressure and are on city water....no problems with the low water pressure.

4) You would need to remove the chlorine first before it goes through the RO system? I'm not really sure why....my city water has chlorine in it and I can smell it and taste it, but after the water has been filtered, I have not been able to smell or taste it. Maybe I missed the reasoning for this in another post in this thread?
