Paph fairieanum

Hi everyone,

I've got this Paph fairieanum which got moved from the bedroom to the kitchen a couple of weeks ago... since then it went downhill and when I checked it, it had lost all its roots... (no smart comments about my abilities in the kitchen nor the bedroom please )

Anyways, the point of all if this is... I have put the plant into a container with sphagnum moss on the bottom then some clay-agra on top and then the plant... the clay-agra to ensure the moist/wet moss does not touch the plant.. so a pseudo sphag-bag set up.

Firstly, will this work and how long should it take for the plant to start to root?

Will putting this on a heat mat help? How much light? Is it too wet?

Wow Tim, that looks like an orchid incubator ! Does the top have ventilation? If not, I would say you might have some nice rot growing in a few days.
If your temps are normal(not cold) I would say there is no need for the heating pad....it might cook the orchid ??
I too, have a fairianum with no roots....I just repotted it to a smaller pot, used some rooting hormone, and pray over it daily
It is not dead yet ,but I haven't checked the roots..it is growing top leaves, which I hope is a good sign.

Tim, I think that should work fine. As Gilda said though, open the lid and give it some air every few days so you don't encourage rot. As far as how long it's going to take to develop roots--could be anywhere from a couple months to six. Just depends on what phase of growth it was in when the old roots went: if it had just started a rest period, your wait's going to be longer.

and i came across the picture of its flower from last year... and now I am wishing I took better care of it...

the 'incubator' is next to the computer... warmer there... and everytime I sit at the computer I open the top to let air in... thanks for the advice Louis/Gilda.
