Bulb longissimum and Other Orchids in Bloom

Those who have been following my recent posts will know that I have been complaining about the rain.Last weekend there was a break in the weather so the Mrs and I decided to go for a drive and before we knew it we had covered over 50 miles. We realised we were quite close to a friend's place and decided to pay him a visit to see his orchids.Was fascinated by some of his species that were blooming.

Pic #1 - Bulb longissimum with petals measuring over 30 ins!
Pic #2 - Habenaria carnea, rare and found only in the limestone area here in
the state of Perlis showing the beautiful leaves.
Pic #3 - Flowers of Habenaria carnea, faded a bit; normally light pink
Pic #4 - Den bracteosum from Papua New Guinea - dark pink form

Sorry for the poor photos as I had to use the Mrs' compact digital camera.I had left my DSLR at home.

I really like the Bulb. longissimum. It's on my wish list. The Den. bracteosum is beautiful also.

The dend is my favorite, terrific color. But they are all wonderful. Isn't it so special to live in a world with such beauty!

Love the longissimum !! Its a beauty!And the foliage in the Habenaria is very eye-catching. It is special all the variety of orchids we get to see from all over the world on this forum! Thanks for sharing your pics!

Thank you, Diane. You are the only one who has commented on the leaves of the Habenaria.Actually they are part of the beauty of this plant. The leaves have a satiny texture and are very attractive even without the blooms.Some taxonomists think that this plant is a variety of H rhodosticta but the flower has a fuller shape and a much bigger lip.
