Is the scarlet belle an hybrid between purpurea and rubra? do you grow all the same? which one is more rewarding? do these bloom?

yes uproot the plant and put in fridge for about 8weeks, also there is another way.... take them out
of the water tray and put them in shade. And yes, skipping dormancy would bring the plant into decline.
However I noticed that during the rainy season here the plant seems to go semi-dormant.

i was actually surprised when i saw this, i was just trimming old leaves and then this. The scarlett belle
in my experience is not a good insect catcher, but the leucophylla and the rubra is very agressive, not a
single day without a fly buzzing within the pitchers.

yeah after seeing that i think im a bit scared now, and to think my garden is surrounded by carnivorous plants.

i think scarlett belle is a cross of leucophylla and psittacina, i grow them all the same, exposed to full sun, except that
the leucophylla and rubra is in the same homemad bog pot while the scarlett belle is on a water tray. Media is the same
cocopeat/perlite/charcoal. Which is rewarding? lets put it this way, the scarlett belle is more bushy, but not too tall,
while the leucophylla and rubra are tall, problem is at strong winds they tend to do bend so you have to give them support.
As for flowering, this is the first time i've flowered a sarracenia, in my experience, it produced a phyllodia first, hence
the sign for need for dormancy, and then it flowered.

do you put them in the fridge or just let them go semi dormant in the shade? how cold does it get in the Philippines where you are at?
I live in an apt in NY so the winter may be too cold outside the winter but inside too warm for dormancy.\I have leucophylla tarnok, purpurea [small / young] and alata [i need to check] all new to me.

My Droseras ad Pinguiculas are doing well! they catch most of the gnats - especially the Pinguiculas. No dormancy neded

I havent tried doing dormancy yet actually....but i was taught on how to do it.
Uproot the plant, clean, apply fungicide put in bag and store in fridge... the vegie bin.
Check occasionally for fungus, wait 8-12weeks and then start planting again.

But like I said, when its rainy season here, the plants go into semi dormancy due to shortened
photo period.

I am amazed at all these strange, alien looking plants. Good for you Randy that you have the patience and skill to grow these. The simple pitcher plant which I've experimented to grow (two plants already) have all withered and died on me. I give up! Perhaps I'll just stick to orchids. LOL!

I find that carnivorous plants in general are easier to care than with orchids.... maybe
yours was not getting enough light.

I jus leave my Pinguiculas and Droseras in saucer with distilled water. Not so much at risk to over or underwater.

What kind of pitcher plant was the one that wilted? if it was a Sarracenia maybe it was going dormant....

knowing Jojo, i think he was referring to nepenthes alata, as that is very widespread here
and can be had for cheap.
