Miltonia vs. Miltoniopsis

I have no clue why the RHS does what they do. Are they waiting for taxonomists to bicker for years before finally agreeing? Do they think they are the end all be all of the orchid world? Is it just too much trouble to change all the previous entries of hybrids?

Who knows? At this point in my life, who cares? Not I. One of the reasons I refuse to register my hybrids with them and refuse to subscribe to the AOS. They have nothing to offer me.

the reason for changing kingianum to kingianus is to keep the Latin in agreement (some genera are masculine, others feminine; some are singular, others plural) between Genus and species. I have a Dend. kingianum. It likes to keiki, but not bloom. It is a bit of a pain in the butt, so perhaps the name change is appropriate! <grin>

Are you giving the dends enuff light? What these ones tend to do is send off new growths after the flowering period so late spring sends off new growth, with all the light during summer, they tend to harden off and then may throw off a new shoot around autumn, so by winter, these new shoots need to harden off... stick em out in full winter sun.. that should do the trick...

as for that name change... guess it would be too late to change thelychiton to make it feminine/masculine and then keep it as kingianum...

Stick them *outside*??? In winter? I live in Canada! I don't think that's indicated. LOL

I do have the darned thing stuck up against the cold glass of my south window, but no dice.

hmm, yes... canadia aye... the frost/snow can be a bit of a problem... hmm, guess the only thing for it is a lamp or something... then again with all those keikis, you'll have heaps of plants to trade with...
