Snake!

Wow, s/he is pretty. We had a big one like that in the front yard a couple days ago. I call them 'mouse hunters' but back on the farm my family called them chicken snakes because they would eat the hen eggs and little chickens. This one is not poisonous; you can tell by his little head. The dangerous ones have a triangular shaped head. Thanks for posting, Betty.

We have Cobras and King Cobras occasionally here in the garden...nothing to be in love with, they can easily devour a whole chicken! On top of it they can jump quite high if they want to, welcome snake lovers!

we also have lots of cobra's around, not in my garden yet though. i love seeing em in the wild and since its a topic here, will attach some pix of 2 vipers we found while tracking, all the other snakes run off before you can get even close.

I do not want to "hold" any snake. This is a wild animal that I just would rather avoid. I feel no malice toward them...they are here for a reason. I am noticing that we no longer have moles and mole mounds in our yard. Horray! Betty :-)

Those are beautiful, Ron, and I can tell by the shape of the head, plus the vertical slit of the eye that those snakes are venomous. Betty :-)

Bruce, we also call them chicken or rat snakes...but they are great for getting rid of moles, mice & the dreaded orchid eating GRASSHOPPERS! :-) But seriously, I would never say that I love or even like them; I tolerate them. Plus, I try my best to stay out of their way. Andy is NOW in charge of filling the hummingbird feeders...We saw a larger snake in the garden RIGHT UNDER the feeders! Glad I don't have any cobras, either...I might just deport them at least a hundred miles away! Betty

@Ron, looks like you have one of the poisonous snakes in the Philippines, its a venomous pit viper (Trimeresurus sp.).
