Catasetum pileatum 'Icy Green' in bloom

Beautiful.

I have a similar plant which is also developing its spike now. One thing I've observed about this plant is that it has been a faithful bloomer and so easy to care for.

You're so right Jojo. Unfortunately the blooms don't last very long - about 10 days max.

I am posting a picture of a clone of Cstm pileatum belonging to a friend which is the most mouth-watering catasetum ever! Been trying to pry a division off him for years. No success so far. This picture was taken at one of our local shows. You may notice that our 'blue-ribbon' is actually yellow( first prize) as a sign of respect to the royal patron of our orchid society, the Sultanah (Queen). The royal colour here is yellow.

Wow. That is indeed mouth-watering! I can imagine why your friend wouldn't give in to your attempts. Hehehe ..... Perhaps you need to hone-and-polish your convincing skills so that your friend will give in to your request. I myself would probable kneel down in front of him and beg him for a division. LOL!

Yes, I agree the flowers don't last long enough but the plant is so easy to care for specially for me where my grow area is constantly wet and humid which I believe this plant loves. I also do love its scent.

One thing though is that the flowers usually turn a bit yellowish as it ages. The flowers look their best (and green) on the first 2-3 days after opening, don't they?

Yes they do look their best the first 2-3 days. I've tried my best to try to persuade my friend, short of kissing his feet. Come to think of it, maybe I should do that.

I'm still waiting for the pink variety to bloom. It bloomed together with the green one last year but I missed photographing it.It will bloom when I go for my holidays,I am sure, just to frustrate me!Hehehe....
