brassavola nodosa mutation?

Hi all...I mounted a nodosa in the spring and this summer it put out a couple of new growths and is starting to give me lots of roots. One of the growths has a second leaf. Is this something that nodosa will do naturally on occasion? I have used superthrive on it. Just wondering if that could be the cause. To give you a bit of background....the division that I bought was pretty sad looking when I got it unpotted, hence the superthrive. All of the older growths are shriveling down to nothing and the first new one was awfully stunted. The second new growth with the double leaves is larger and is giving me another growth.......

Many orchids that typically have only one leaf can on occaision grow more than one. It is not necessarily due to Superthrive. If the plant is recovering from stress, I have heard that this type of growth is more common.

Thanks Susan! Considering the seriously small growth the stunted and put out another, I had a feeling that it was stress related. Guess it's sorta like starting with a seedling when all you have is an eye or two to work with.

I don't have my nodosa any longer,( gave it to a friend )but I DO have a nodosa hybrid. It does have double leaves...so I think yours may be just recovering...Betty :-)

My Little Stars is exhibiting the same thing.... some of the new growths has 2 leaves, i
didnt put much weight in it since i thought that maybe its just happy....

I have the same going on with mine. I saw one yesterday at orchid society that also had the two leaves. I doubt if there is anything to be concerned about.

Yes, I would not worry about it. Probably normal happy growth.

That is common for hybrids.
If somewhere in their lineage a parent is a multifoliate plant, then that trait shows up every now and then even if the plant itself is predominantly unifoliate.
