cymbidium help

I'm not sure what's wrong with this one. It was dropped off to me from my grandmother. She told me I have better luck with them and that's it. It was quite wet so i dried out the medium that it was planted in and repoted it. The roots were very short and I believe there was only one left is there anything else I can do for it?

Hi Lucky ! Add a better picture showing more of the plant. From the looks of it, it seems that the foliage is all but dead, but the pseudobulb might be good, it could sprout out a new growth, send us better pictures, and we could give you a better advise.

So I've trimmed the dead leaves and the mushy roots and I have soaked it in a 2:1 peroxide water mix for 30 mins and I have put it in a ziploc bag with a damp paper towel but this is what the bulb looks like. It is still somewhat firm and there is still one root that is healthy. There is what looks like a new leaf trying to sprout. I've also noticed that this one leaf turned yellow today on my other cymbidium. I've been having problems with watering this one as the apartment has been very dry lately. I just finished rearranging my living room and I hope that all my orchids will get more of the diffused light from my northern window.

Hi, Lucky girl...
Is your cym still alive? It looks like it was watered to death. The photos suggest that it is potted in dirt of some kind and that is a no no for a cym, as it is for most orchids. The photo also shows it way over potted. Let us know how it is doing. Regards, Remo

Well the last leaf just started to turn yellow. I soaked it in a mixture of 2 parts peroxide and 1 part water for 30 mins and then I put it in a bag with a damp paper towel making sure that they don't touch. The roots that it has seem to be doing fine but no new growth as of yet for foliage. Any suggestions on how to help it survive?
My other cym has developed a waxy spotting on one of the leaves. I am going to try using a combination of 1 part dish soap and 4 parts olive oil, then mixing 1 tablespoon of this mixture to 1 cup warm water and spraying it. Is there anything else I can do for it?

Oh by the way these are my first cym's and would love to be able to give one to my Grandmother for mother's day

Dear luckygirl...that bulb looks shot! If I were you, I would not soak it in anything at all.
You can try the sphag & bag technique to try & revive it (do a search here at orchidtalk) and when and if it gets a viable root pot it up in a small pot in a bark mix which will hold almost no water. When you water it, do so thoroughly making sure it has excellent drainage. I would give this plant morning and afternoon sun only for awhile until it starts to recover. You would be surprised at how strong these cym bulbs are. If there is any life left in it at all it should come back but it will definitely need a lot of TLC.
