Yew, thanks for the history and important info, never heard about it thank for late Prof Rapee Saggarik. Yew do you have any idea how to get red,white and spot with the spike more than one foot? Anyway Bruce very nice clone.

Sorry Zainal, I don't. I used to have the red and the spotted and found that if mounted onto a tree where the roots can can run free the spike tend to be longer. Unfortunately I only have the alba form now and it was mounted on the stump of my rambutan tree which has collapsed and I have just managed to save a portion of the plant and a keiki, both of which have not been planted for the last 6 months because I couldn't find a suitable tree branch to tie them onto. When the plant was on the rambutan stump it used to produce spikes of up to 15 ins.

Yes the late Prof Rapee Saggarik almost single-handedly launched the Thai orchid industry and and has deservedly been called 'The father of Thai Orchids'.

Thanks for all the information. I am not sure if mine is actually the 'red' or if indeed it is the 'spot' as there are tiny white spots in the centers of the bloom and on the buds.

Anyway, I took a photo to help show the plants size. I almost missed the sun today from working on the server updates. Anyway, here is an okay shot, not the best, but you can see how large the plant is and how huge those tough roots are.

Zainal, I read an article in the AOS magazine which said that grow the plants continuously at 27-30 oC for 2-3 years with vigourous watering and fertilizers and without letting the temperatures falling below as this would initiate spiking. After 2 years allow it a temperature drop and it will grow a huge spike. This is a trick that most nurseries in Taiwan do for producing huge inflorecences in Phals and other hybrids. I wish I had a climate controlled greenhouse to try it out.
