    Bruce, when you get a chance please PM me with the name and location of where you buy your lava rock. I understand and like how you use it. I want to use it more often myself. Hopefully where you purchase mail orders are o.k. Thanks in advance! AL

    Kathi, I too am wondering about rock and aggregate media, especially for my more dry tolerant Encyclias. I just created a new post asking for information about a product called Pearl Rock, which I repotted three Encycs into today as an experiement. I saw lava rock but it all appears so large? Can anyone mention the typical size of lava rock, or other aggregates they may be using as a media for their orchids?! Thanks!

    Kreg, You could take a hemmer to lava rock chunks and get them down to 1 inch pieces. Let us know how rocks work out for you!

    For anyone curious, I contacted the grower. They said that Stalite is more moisture retentive than it looks, and plants in it get watered about the same as bark.
