My Favorite Garden Flowers

The lily is by far my favorite summer garden flower. I have a large collection of various types and have blooms from May thru September. This newer variety is at the top of my list of favorites. They are referred to as Ornipets---a cross between oriental lilies and trumpet lilies. They have a higher flower count than their parents , greater substance of bloom and sturdier stocks. The fragrance is wonderful and now with them in full bloom the scent can be detected several houses away--especially in the evenings. They last well on the stalk and as a cut flower. The bulbs are very hardy and multiply quickly. The pictures are just a few of the clumps I have planted in the front and back garden. They are blooming a few weeks earlier than normal. Usually they bloom late July into early August.

Wow, beautiful. Send me some bulbs!! LOL I have some orientals planted and they smelled awesome the first year. Now they have no scent. Maybe you can tell me what I am doing wrong!?!

What a beautitful display from your lilies . I love this white ones. I don't think I have seen this white before although we have a lot of the oriental lilies growing in our highlands.

I have the same yellow one out front. My husband came home Easter morning with a few plants the local nursery was selling for a dollar because they were done. I sent the sweet man back for more. So now, next spring I'll have this lovely walkway of yellow lilies out front. It'll be so pretty. I hope they grow as nicely as yours!

Yes there is 'Stargazer' in it's parentage but it has a much heavier scent, better substance and a heavier bud count.

Beautiful, wish I could grow lilies but the lily beetle ate all mine and Sevin seemed to be the only answer and it wasn't something I wanted to use, especially all Summer long every year. - martha
